Keep heavy materials out of a volume-only guess

List concrete, masonry, tile, lumber, carpet, drywall, and roofing material separately. Describe the project area and how the debris is currently stored. A contractor needs to assess truck limits, loading method, and disposal classification; a “quarter load” label alone cannot settle a heavy-material quote.

Keep nails and sharp edges contained. Do not disturb suspected asbestos, contaminated material, or unknown dust to prepare a pickup. State the uncertainty and get the appropriate specialist assessment before handling. Ordinary debris hauling is not a substitute for hazardous-material work.

Agree who loads and who protects the route

A pile in a driveway differs from material still upstairs or behind a locked gate. Tell the contractor about access, surfaces, and where a truck can stop. Make clear whether demolition, bagging, sweeping, or only loading is part of the job. Do not assume hauling includes removing fixtures from the building.
