Separate refrigerant appliances from the rest

Waco’s requested bulky collection excludes refrigerant-containing appliances. Do not place a refrigerator, freezer, or similar unit out with a furniture pile on the assumption it will be collected. The residential services page sets out the exclusion.

At Cobbs Recycling Center, Freon appliances require proof of refrigerant removal or the City’s $15 removal option under its posted rules. This is a City facility charge, not a private pickup price. Confirm the current procedure and your eligibility before transporting an appliance.

Plan the disconnection before the carry

State whether power, water, drains, gas, or a built-in connection is involved. Hauling is not automatically plumbing, electrical, or gas work. Have the appropriate qualified person handle disconnection where needed, and ask the removal contractor what condition the appliance must be in on arrival. Never cut refrigerant lines yourself.

For a stacked laundry set, mention the stack, mounting arrangement, and confined room. For a refrigerator, measure doors and tight turns. Keep appliance doors secured during storage and keep children away from discarded units. Tell the contractor about leaking equipment before it is moved or loaded.

Price the whole task

Ask whether the estimate includes stairs, removal from inside the home, transport, and the receiving facility’s appliance charge. The pricing guide distinguishes public disposal fees from private-service planning ranges. A $15 facility fee is not a $15 home pickup.

Use full-service planning when the appliance is part of a larger cleanout, but keep it separately listed. The contractor who calls you back confirms whether they take that particular unit and what its removal costs.
